PART 9

Riley nodded once.

“Good to know.”

Then Beckett did something no one expected.

He saluted her.

Not because he had to.

Because men who survive the impossible understand the shape of debt.

Behind him, Evans, Hayes, Doc Miller, and the others did the same.

Riley looked away quickly.

“Don’t do that.”

Beckett lowered his hand.

“Too late.”

When they got back to Outpost Falcon, the whole story should have ended with medical checks, reports, and quiet gratitude.

It didn’t.

Captain Price was waiting on the landing pad.

Clean uniform.

Hard eyes.

A face already arranged into blame.

The moment Riley stepped off the helicopter, he pointed at two military police officers.

“Detain her.”

Every man from Romeo Two-Zero stopped.

Beckett’s head turned slowly.

“Excuse me?”

Price ignored him.

“Chief Harper abandoned assigned duty, violated operational boundaries, and interfered with a classified mission.”

Riley said nothing.

She was too tired to defend herself.

Beckett was not.

“She saved six Americans.”

“She compromised a higher-priority objective,” Price snapped.

That was the wrong sentence.

Every SEAL on the pad heard it.

Higher priority.

Than Danvers bleeding out.

Than Hayes whispering into a broken radio.

Than six men waiting to die in the dirt.

Beckett stepped closer.

“Say that again.”

Price’s jaw tightened.

“Stand down, Chief.”

“No.”

The MPs hesitated.

Price pointed at Riley.

“She will be processed.”

Doc Miller, still covered in Danvers’ blood, walked up beside Beckett.

“Then process all of us.”

Evans joined him.

“So me too.”

Hayes stepped forward.

“And me.”

One by one, Romeo Two-Zero formed a line between Riley Harper and the MPs.

Dirty.

Bloody.

Exhausted.

Alive.

Price looked furious.

“This is not a vote.”

Beckett’s voice dropped.

“No. It’s a witness statement.”

May you like

Then a new voice cut across the pad.

“It is also evidence.”
