Footsteps echoed outside.
Crowe’s voice.
“Pack everything. We move before sunrise.”
I slipped behind a stack of crates as he entered with Harper and Colonel Garrison.
Harper looked nervous.
“You said she was dead.”
Crowe tossed his gloves on the table.
“She is.”
Garrison stared at the maps.
“We should have verified.”
Crowe turned on him.
“You want to climb down there and ask the river?”
Harper rubbed his face.
“Mitchell has been asking questions.”
Crowe’s eyes sharpened.
“Ironwolf is old.”
“He is dangerous,” Garrison said.
Crowe laughed.
“So was James Reeves.”
My grip tightened around the knife.
Crowe opened a metal case and pulled out a sealed file.
“Once these weapons move through Pakistan, the Council is clear. Harper gets promoted. Garrison retires rich. I disappear. And Sarah Reeves becomes one more tragic operational loss.”
Harper swallowed.
“What about the recording?”
Crowe frowned.
“What recording?”
I stepped out of the shadows.
“This one.”
Three men froze.
