Chapter 6

The captain nodded to the officers.

They moved toward Ethan.

He stepped back.

“This is my wedding,” he snapped.

Grace’s voice came quietly from the aisle.

“No, Ethan. It was your alibi.”

That stopped him.

Because it was true.

He had not planned a wedding out of love.

He had planned a performance.

If Grace looked unstable enough, if she showed up angry enough, if she was dragged out in handcuffs in front of enough people, then Ethan could turn the story into something clean.

Poor Ethan.

Trapped by a crazy wife.

Forced to move on.

Protected by the woman who really loved him.

But Grace had survived long enough to bring truth with her.

The officers turned Ethan around and cuffed his hands behind his back.

The same sound that had shamed Grace now ended him.

The bride stood shaking beside the altar.

She looked at Grace.

“I didn’t know about the baby,” she whispered.

Grace believed her.

But belief did not erase harm.

“You knew about me,” Grace said.

The bride lowered her eyes.

That silence was answer enough.

Ethan shouted as the officers led him down the aisle.

“She set me up! She planned this!”

Grace did not respond.

She only held her daughter and watched him pass.

The guests moved out of his way like he was something spilled.

When he reached the doors, Ethan turned back one last time.

His eyes found Grace.

For the first time, he looked at her without control.

Without charm.

Without the smile that had fooled everyone.

“You ruined my life,” he said.

Grace looked down at the baby.

Then back at him.

“No,” she said. “You left yours outside in the snow.”

Nobody spoke after that.

The officers took him out.

The doors closed behind him.

And the wedding hall, built for vows, became the place where every lie he told finally died.

👉 After Ethan was taken away, Grace still had one person left to face — the woman who almost married him.
