PART 4: The Wedding Invitation That Wasn’t About Love

PART 4: The Wedding Invitation That Wasn’t About Love

Ryan had chosen the aviation estate for a reason.

The runway.

The private jet.

The hangar.

The billion-dollar background.

He wanted the world to see him standing in front of wealth and believe he belonged to it.

Celeste’s family had social connections, but Ryan needed more.

He needed access.

Contracts.

Investors.

A stronger last name than Whitmore.

And for years, he had been trying to get near Gabriel Reyes.

Mariana’s father had refused every call.

Every pitch.

Every private meeting.

Ryan thought the wedding would change that.

He had rented part of the estate through a partner company without realizing Gabriel still owned the land beneath the contract.

He invited investors.

Aviation executives.

Old family friends.

People who knew Mariana.

People who remembered the divorce.

People who had heard Ryan’s version.

He wanted Mariana absent so her silence would look like shame.

But he also wanted her name near the event.

A subtle connection.

A rumor.

A suggestion that the Reyes family had blessed his rise.

Elaine showed Mariana the documents.

A reception sponsorship tied to a proposed acquisition.

A photo-op scheduled near Gabriel’s aircraft.

A press release draft describing Ryan as “future-facing aviation investor with long-standing family ties to the Reyes network.”

Mariana laughed once.

Coldly.

“Family ties?”

Elaine nodded.

“He’s using your history to sell credibility.”

Mariana looked across the room where Lucas, Mateo, and Isabel were building a tower out of wooden blocks.

Isabel looked up.

“Mommy, why are you mad?”

Mariana softened instantly.

“I’m not mad, baby.”

Lucas narrowed his eyes.

“You have serious eyebrows.”

Even Elaine smiled.

Mariana crouched beside them.

“Do you remember when I told you some grown-ups make bad choices?”

Mateo nodded.

“Like lying?”

“Yes.”

“Is someone lying?” Isabel asked.

Mariana looked at her daughter’s face.

Ryan’s eyes.

Her own mouth.

A child made from pain but raised in love.

“Yes,” Mariana said. “Someone is lying.”

Lucas placed a block carefully on the tower.

“Are we going to tell the truth?”

Mariana looked at Elaine.

Then at the invitation.

“Yes,” she said slowly. “I think we are.”

Gabriel did not like the plan at first.

Absolutely not.

That was what he said.

Then he said it again in Spanish, which meant he was truly angry.

“You do not walk into that man’s wedding,” he said. “You do not give him another chance to hurt you.”

Mariana sat across from him in his study.

“I’m not going for him.”

“You are taking the children.”

“They deserve to know they are not shame.”

Gabriel’s face tightened.

“They are four years old.”

“They know when people whisper. They know when I avoid questions.”

He looked away.

Mariana stood and walked to her father’s desk.

“Dad, Ryan built his whole new life on the lie that I was broken. Now he’s using my family’s name to make money. If I stay silent, he gets to keep the lie.”

Gabriel looked at her for a long moment.

Then he opened a drawer.

Inside were two envelopes.

One white.

One cream.

Mariana frowned.

“What are those?”

“The DNA report,” Gabriel said. “And the business fraud packet Elaine sent to our legal team.”

Mariana’s breath caught.

“You already prepared them?”

“I am your father.”

She smiled through sudden tears.

“And the man in black suit?”

Gabriel’s mouth curved slightly.

“Victor Hale. Head of legal security. He will not let Ryan touch you.”

Mariana looked down at the envelopes.

The first could expose Ryan as a father.

The second could destroy him as a fraud.

Both were true.

Both were dangerous.

Gabriel came around the desk and took her hands.

“You do not owe that man a dramatic entrance.”

Mariana’s eyes hardened.

May you like

“No. But I owe my children a mother who stops hiding.”

👉 Mariana walked into Ryan’s wedding to reveal the truth, but she did not know his bride was already carrying a secret of her own.
