Chapter 3 - The Child Helena Wanted Erased
Roman read Vincent’s letter twice.
Helena’s objective was simple.
Remove Sophie from the D’Angelo succession structure.
Roman’s late father had created a family trust controlling several major properties and voting shares.
If Roman had a legally recognized biological child, that child became the primary next-generation beneficiary.
Sophie qualified.
Helena hated it.
Not because Sophie was poor.
Not because Nora came from outside the old D’Angelo circle.
Because Sophie’s existence ended Helena’s control.
Before Sophie was born, Helena expected to manage family voting power if anything happened to Roman.
After Sophie was recognized, independent trustees would protect the child’s share.
Helena’s authority would shrink dramatically.
So she attacked the weakest point.
Paternity.
Roman remembered the accusations.
Helena had always called Nora opportunistic.
She demanded tests.
Roman refused at first.
Not because he doubted Nora.
Because he resented his mother’s interference.
After Sophie was born, Nora and Roman completed a private DNA test anyway.
99.99 percent.
Sophie was his daughter.
Roman believed that ended everything.
Vincent’s letter said Helena obtained a copy.
Then she arranged another report.
Altered.
The forged version said Roman was excluded as Sophie’s father.
Helena never showed it to Roman.
She showed it to selected lawyers, advisers, and eventually Nora.
That was how she convinced Nora that Roman had abandoned Sophie after learning the “truth.”
Nora had spent three years believing Roman rejected his own child.
Roman had spent three years believing Nora hated him.
Helena stood between them.
Controlling both stories.
Roman went upstairs.
Nora was awake.
Sophie slept beside her.
Roman placed the certified DNA report on the table.
The real one.
Nora started crying before she finished reading it.
Then she pulled an old folded paper from her purse.
Helena’s version.
The result was different.
Roman compared the laboratory numbers.
Same date.
Same collection site.
Same case number.
Different conclusion.
Forgery.
Nora finally explained everything.
Two weeks after Roman’s supposed death, Helena arrived at her apartment.
She gave Nora the false DNA report.
Then she produced documents claiming Roman had discovered the truth before the assassination attempt.
According to Helena, Roman had changed his estate plans.
Sophie would receive nothing.
Nora did not believe her.
Not until Roman’s messages stopped.
And the monthly support payments never arrived.
Helena created a complete reality.
Then enforced it financially.
But Nora had kept one thing.
The final voicemail Roman sent before the attack.
He told her he loved her.
He told Sophie he would see her the next morning.
No anger.
No rejection.
For years Nora could not understand how that man disappeared emotionally overnight.
Now she knew.
He never did.
Then Nora revealed something else.
Helena had not simply left them alone after destroying their relationship.
She had visited twice.
The second visit happened six months earlier.
She offered Nora money.
A huge amount.
