Chapter 1 - The Easter Silence

“Go back to your lonely little house.”
Meredith’s icy voice echoed through the luxurious living room just as Callie collapsed onto the white Persian rug.
The Easter basket rolled across the polished hardwood floor. Pastel eggs burst open, candy scattered everywhere, and a wineglass trembled in Meredith’s perfectly manicured hand.
Simon didn't even kneel.
He simply stared down at his wife with a clenched jaw.
The front door slammed open.
An older man rushed inside.
Mr. Miller.
Callie's father.
The retired mechanic froze when he saw his daughter curled on her side, barely breathing.
He dropped to one knee without saying a word.
Two fingers searched carefully for her pulse.
One hand supported her shoulder so she wouldn't move.
Then he noticed the bruises around her neck.
The room became unbearably quiet.
Meredith smiled as if nothing important had happened.
"She embarrassed everyone," she said coldly.
Mr. Miller slowly lifted his eyes toward her.

Every person in the room suddenly stopped breathing.
👉 But the old man wasn't looking at Meredith anymore... he was looking at Simon.
