Chapter 6 - The Lie Inside the Nursery

Julian demanded another DNA test.

Chloe cried.

“I never cheated.”

“You're carrying another man's child!”

“No!”

She pushed the paperwork toward him.

“The fertility clinic called this morning.”

Julian frowned.

“What fertility clinic?”

“The one your mother chose.”

Silence.

Chloe explained that after months of failed pregnancies, Evelyn insisted on a private reproductive specialist.

Julian never attended.

He signed electronic consent forms remotely.

Now the clinic claimed there had been a “sample handling error.”

Evelyn suddenly looked terrified.

Not angry.

Terrified.

“You're lying,” she whispered.

Chloe shook her head.

“The doctor wants us back immediately.”

Julian slowly turned toward Evelyn.

“What exactly did you do?”

Evelyn couldn't answer.

Because she didn't know either.

Someone else had already altered the plan.

Then Julian's phone rang.

The caller ID displayed only one word.
