PART 2

My father blinked.

“What?”

Mr. Callahan leaned back.

“The Beacon Hill mansion,” he said.

My father scoffed.

“That’s my house. I’ve lived there for forty years.”

“No,” Callahan said calmly. “You have resided there for forty years.”

The room went dead silent.

Eric turned to him.

“Dad?”

My father ignored him.

“That mansion is the Morgan family legacy. My father would never take that from me.”

Callahan opened another section of the binder.

“Walter Morgan left very specific instructions regarding that property.”

My father’s face changed.

For the first time, he looked unsure.

Callahan continued.

“The Beacon Hill residence was transferred into the Eleanor Morgan Protective Trust twelve years ago.”

My aunt whispered,

“Eleanor?”

My mother’s name.

The air in the room shifted.

Callahan looked down at the page.

“Upon Eleanor Morgan’s death, controlling interest passed to the designated beneficiary.”

Eric leaned forward.

“Who?”

Mr. Callahan lifted his eyes.

“Ava Morgan.”

Nobody breathed.

My father stared at me like I had turned into a stranger.

“No,” he whispered.

May you like

Callahan’s voice stayed steady.

“Yes.”
