Chapter 1 - "You're Nobody Special"

“Sit down. You’re nobody special.”
Sienna shoved Colonel Avery Mercer hard against her already injured shoulder, forcing her back into seat 12F.
Pain shot through Avery's arm, but she never cried out.
She only gripped the armrest tighter.
Across the aisle, Blake laughed while holding his phone high enough to record every second.
"Look at her," he sneered. "Playing the military hero again."
Passengers turned their heads.
Some looked uncomfortable.
Others simply watched.
A flight attendant hurried toward them.
“Ma'am, please stop pushing the passenger.”
Sienna rolled her eyes.
“She keeps acting like she's important because of that uniform.”
Avery slowly looked out the window instead of answering.
She had survived combat.
She had buried friends.
She refused to argue with her own sister inside a crowded airplane.
Then...
A massive gray shadow suddenly filled the window.
Gasps erupted throughout the cabin.
An F-22 Raptor slid into perfect formation only yards outside Avery's window.
The passenger behind her recoiled in terror.
Blake lowered his phone.
“What...?”
Avery stared silently at the fighter.
Across the cabin...
A second F-22 appeared outside the opposite windows.
The aircraft held flawless formation beside the airliner.
The cabin fell completely silent.
Then the pilot inside the nearest Raptor slowly turned his helmet...

...and saluted directly toward seat 12F.
👉 The fighter pilot clearly knew Avery—but nobody on board understood why two combat aircraft had appeared for one passenger.
