Chapter 5

PART 5:
The old attorney placed another paper on the table.

“This is the declaration you were about to sign. It states that you have no known biological child and that your estranged wife has made no medical or legal request regarding a minor.”

Mr. Hartwell stared at the page.

His signature line waited at the bottom.

The pen sat beside it.

The woman next to him reached for his arm.

“Don’t let them pressure you.”

He pulled away from her.

The movement was small.

But it was final.

The attorney looked toward the board.

“If he signs this now, knowing what has just been presented, it becomes fraud.”

No one spoke.

The billionaire who had owned every room he entered suddenly looked trapped inside his own.

His wife adjusted the baby gently.

“I didn’t come here to ruin your deal,” she said.

Her voice shook, but she did not lower her head.

“I came because she needs your medical history. She needs a father who will at least tell the truth. After that, we can leave.”

Mr. Hartwell flinched.

“We?”

“Yes,” she said. “I’m not here to come back to a house where I had to beg people to believe I was your wife.”

The woman beside him stood abruptly.

“This is pathetic. She walks in with a baby and everyone falls apart?”

The old attorney turned to her.

“You may want to sit down.”

She laughed.

“Excuse me?”

He removed one final packet from the sealed file.

“Your employment agreement is also under review. So is your role in the intercepted communications, the false reports submitted to Mr. Hartwell’s counsel, and the attempted execution of documents that would have violated the trust.”

Her face emptied of color.

The board chair, an older woman with silver hair, pushed back her chair.

“Security.”

The word was quiet.

But it ended her career.

The woman looked at Mr. Hartwell.

“You’re going to let them do this to me?”

He stared at her like he was seeing her for the first time.

“You did this to my wife.”

She pointed at the young mother.

“She was never your equal.”

The young mother’s eyes filled again.

But she did not look away.

The board chair’s voice cut through the room.

“Get her out.”

Security entered.

This time, no one called the young wife dramatic.

No one told her she did not belong.

They watched as the woman who had looked down on her was escorted from the same boardroom she had tried to control.

👉 The woman who destroyed the marriage was removed — but the husband still had to face what he had become.
