PART 9:
She turned toward the door.
“But you didn’t.”
He looked up.
Not hopeful.
Grateful.
She walked past him, then paused.
“One day, she’ll ask what happened.”
Mr. Hartwell looked down at his daughter.
“Then I’ll tell her the truth.”
His wife nodded slowly.
“Good.”
Because that was the justice she wanted most.
Not revenge.
Not diamonds.
Not a headline.
The truth.
The poor wife who had been told she did not belong in the room had walked in with nothing but a baby on her chest and the courage to be heard.
And by the time she walked out, the billionaire, the board, and everyone who had judged her knew exactly who did not belong there.
