Chapter 6

The bride’s face went white.

She lifted the photo.

It showed Ethan forcing his way into the apartment that morning.

His hand around his ex-wife’s wrist.

Noah standing behind her in his little dress shirt.

The same red marks now visible on Ethan’s face.

The bride looked from the photo to Ethan’s cheek.

Her bouquet slipped lower in her hands.

“What did you do?”

Ethan’s mouth worked, but no words came out.

Noah’s mother stood from the guest table.

She did not look triumphant.

She looked heartbroken.

The kind of heartbreak that had run out of tears.

“I didn’t come here to ruin your wedding,” she said to the bride. “I came because you deserved to know who you were marrying before he made you legally tied to the same lie.”

Ethan found his voice.

“She’s manipulating you. She’s always done this.”

The bride’s father stepped into the aisle.

“And the recording?”

Ethan froze.

The bride looked at the flash drive.

“What recording?”

Noah’s mother’s attorney entered through the side door with two venue security officers behind him.

He had been waiting outside, as planned, until the box was delivered.

But Ethan had made the delivery public.

So now the truth would be public too.

The attorney looked at the bride’s father first.

“I apologize for the timing,” he said. “My client tried to handle this privately.”

Then he looked at Ethan.

“But Mr. Ethan chose the microphone.”

The room was silent except for the soft hum of the speakers.

The attorney handed a tablet to the bride’s father.

The audio began.

Ethan’s voice filled the ballroom.

“I came to make sure you don’t embarrass me today.”

His ex-wife’s voice followed.

“You can’t come in here like this.”

Then the sound of glass breaking.

Noah’s small voice.

“Don’t touch my mom.”

Ethan’s voice again.

“After today, everyone will know what she is.”

The bride covered her mouth.

No one moved.

Then another clip played.

This one was older.

A voicemail Ethan had left two months earlier.

“You’ll take whatever I give you, because nobody believes women like you over men like me.”

The guests who had whispered about Noah’s mother all night now stared at the floor.

Ethan looked around for someone to save him.

There was no one.

His mother was not there.

His lawyers were not there.

His money was not louder than the recording.

👉 The bride finally saw the man behind the smile — and the ring on her finger suddenly felt like a warning.
