Chapter 1

“Sign it, or there is no wedding.”
Dominic’s voice exploded through the microphone.
The ocean behind him glittered like nothing was wrong.
White roses covered the wedding arch.
Champagne glasses lined silver trays.
One hundred and eighty guests stood frozen on the deck of the luxury yacht, watching the bride stare at the contract his mother had just thrown in front of her.
Audrey’s wedding dress moved softly in the sea wind.
Her hands were cold.
Her eyes were red.
But she did not cry.
Victoria stood beside the table in a pale gold dress, chin lifted, diamonds flashing at her throat.
She looked less like a mother of the groom and more like a queen watching someone kneel.
“This is a family agreement,” Victoria said. “A reasonable one.”
Audrey looked down at the pages.
Forty-one percent.
That number sat in the middle of the contract like a threat.
Forty-one percent of Crestwood Maritime.
Her company.
Her father’s company.
The company she had spent eight years rebuilding after his death.
Dominic stepped closer, gripping the microphone so tightly his knuckles turned white.
“You heard me,” he said. “Sign it.”
The MC stood off to the side, pale and helpless.
Guests looked at one another.
Some embarrassed.
Some curious.
Some already reaching for their phones.
Audrey slowly lifted her eyes to Dominic.
The man who had promised to love her.
The man waiting under the wedding arch in a white tuxedo.
The man who had just turned their wedding into a boardroom execution.
Her voice was quiet.
“Then there is no wedding.”
The deck went completely still.
Dominic blinked.
For one second, he looked like he had not understood her.
Then his face twisted.
“What did you just say?”
Audrey stood straighter.
“I said there is no wedding.”
Someone gasped.
Victoria’s smile vanished.
Dominic took a sharp step toward Audrey.
“You’re embarrassing me.”
Audrey gave a small, bitter breath.
“No, Dominic. You’re doing that yourself.”
His anger broke loose.
He lunged forward like he meant to grab her arm.
Before he reached her, Audrey raised her phone.
The screen was still lit.
A recording.
Dominic stopped.
Audrey turned the phone slightly toward Victoria.
Then toward the contract on the table.
“I heard everything.”
Victoria’s face drained of color.
The groom’s mother, who had spent the entire morning acting untouchable, suddenly looked very human.
And very afraid.
From the back of the aisle, a man in a navy suit stepped forward.
Audrey’s lawyer.
At the same time, a uniformed police officer who had been standing near the yacht’s security entrance moved between Dominic and Audrey.
“Step back from her,” the officer said.
Dominic froze.
The lawyer walked calmly down the aisle with a leather folder in his hand.
He stopped beside Audrey, looked at Dominic, then at Victoria.
“Crestwood Maritime is already protected.”
Dominic’s mouth opened.
No words came out.
Victoria clutched the edge of the table.
Audrey stood beneath the white flowers, still holding the phone.
And for the first time all day, everyone on that yacht understood the bride had not arrived unprepared.

She had arrived with proof.
👉 Dominic thought he had trapped Audrey at the altar — but the recording on her phone was about to expose what he and his mother planned before the vows.
