Chapter 9

A year later, the yacht was booked again.

Not for a wedding.

For Crestwood Maritime’s anniversary gala.

White roses lined the deck.

The same ocean shone behind the stage.

But this time, Audrey wore navy silk instead of a wedding dress.

No veil.

No contract on the table.

No man standing beside her demanding proof of loyalty.

When she stepped up to the microphone, the crowd quieted.

She looked out at her employees, partners, friends, and the people who had stayed when everything fell apart.

“Last year,” she said, “I learned that love should never require you to surrender the thing you built with your own hands.”

The wind moved softly through the flowers.

Audrey smiled.

“So tonight, we celebrate a company that stayed protected, a crew that stayed loyal, and a future no one gets to take by force.”

The applause rose across the deck.

Strong.

Clean.

Free.

Audrey looked toward the water and imagined her father smiling somewhere beyond the horizon.

Dominic had given her an ultimatum in front of everyone.

Marriage or her company.

But he had never understood the truth.

Crestwood Maritime was not the reason Audrey lost a husband.

It was the reason she found out she deserved better than one.

That night, people danced on the same deck where she had once been cornered.

The white roses no longer looked like wedding decorations.

They looked like proof that a place of humiliation could become a place of victory.

Audrey laughed with her employees.

Hugged her COO.

Raised a glass with the dock manager.

And for the first time, the yacht did not feel like the place where love ended.
