Chapter 7

Then Audrey faced the guests.
Her veil moved in the wind.
Her voice trembled now, because strength does not mean pain disappears.
“There will be no wedding today,” she said. “But there will be lunch. Music. And every vendor will be paid.”
A soft laugh moved through the crowd.
Not because it was funny.
Because they needed permission to breathe.
Audrey continued.
“If you came here for a celebration of love, I’m sorry. I thought I did too.”
Her eyes filled.
“But if you came here because you believe my father’s company, my life, and my name are not things to be handed over under pressure, then I’m grateful you stayed.”
The guests stood quietly.
Then applause began.
Slowly.
Respectfully.
This time, Audrey did cry.
But not from defeat.
From release.
In the weeks that followed, Dominic tried to control the story.
He claimed Audrey had a breakdown.
The recording proved otherwise.
He claimed the contract was optional.
The footage of him shouting “Sign it, or there is no wedding” proved otherwise.
He claimed he never intended to interfere with Crestwood.
The draft documents and board communications proved otherwise.
Victoria’s social circle collapsed faster than her confidence.
The families who had once praised her elegance now whispered about extortion and greed.
Dominic lost his position at his investment firm after internal review found he had used company resources to prepare materials connected to the attempted takeover.
Victoria faced civil action from Crestwood’s board for interference.
Neither of them went to prison.
Real life is not always that dramatic.
But they lost the thing they cared about most.
Access.
Reputation.
Control.
As for Audrey, she did not hide.
The following Monday, she walked into Crestwood Maritime still wearing the diamond earrings she had planned to wear on her wedding day.
Her employees went quiet when she entered.
Then the dock manager started clapping.
The whole office followed.
Audrey stood there holding her coffee, crying and laughing at the same time.
“Okay,” she said. “Back to work before my father haunts all of us.”
Everyone laughed.
And work continued.
Contracts were signed.
Ships moved.
Payroll went out.
May you like
The company lived.
👉 Audrey lost a wedding, but she walked back into Crestwood with the one thing Dominic could never steal: her command.
