Chapter 7
PART 7:
Scott left the house with one suitcase and no keys.
Kayla followed him down the steps, but she did not take his hand.
By the time they reached the driveway, she was already asking about the car.
By sunset, her social media had been deleted.
By the next morning, Scott’s credit cards tied to the estate were frozen.
Within a week, his attorney called Carter asking for a settlement.
Carter’s response was simple.
“There is nothing to settle. The trust is enforcing the terms he accepted.”
The divorce took months.
Scott fought everything.
He claimed Avery manipulated his grandmother.
He claimed the condition was unfair.
He claimed the affair had nothing to do with money.
But then the evidence came out.
The messages.
The transfers.
The condo deposit.
The video from the living room.
Scott’s own words.
Sign it. Pack your things. This house is mine now.
In court, the judge watched the clip once.
Then again.
The room was silent.
Scott sat at the defense table, staring down at his hands.
Kayla did not appear beside him.
She had moved out two weeks earlier after learning the trust would not pay for her apartment, car, or shopping bills.
The child, if it was his, would be Scott’s responsibility.
Not Avery’s punishment.
The judge ruled that the trust condition was enforceable.
Scott lost access to the estate.
He was ordered to repay misused funds.
The Collins residence remained under the trust.
Avery became trustee and alternate beneficiary, exactly as Eleanor had written.
When the decision was read, Avery did not smile.
She simply closed her eyes.
Not in victory.
