Chapter 3

PART 3:

After they married, Julian convinced Clara to leave her job and help with his real estate firm.

He said he needed someone he could trust.

Clara handled invoices.

Client follow-ups.

Design notes.

Investor meetings he forgot.

She built half his company from a kitchen table while he took the credit in a tailored suit.

When she got pregnant, she thought maybe the baby would soften him.

Instead, it made him sharper.

He hated the way people asked about Clara at events now.

He hated when older women touched her belly and smiled.

He hated that pregnancy made her look important in a room where he wanted to be the center.

Then he started bringing Vanessa around.

The consultant.

The brand specialist.

The woman with Clara’s bracelet on her wrist.

Clara found the affair by accident.

A hotel receipt in Julian’s coat.

A lipstick stain on his shirt.

A text that appeared on his phone while he was in the shower.

Once the divorce is done, she’ll have nothing. You promised.

Clara sat on the edge of their bed holding that phone, her baby kicking softly inside her, and realized Julian had not just betrayed her.

He had planned her removal.

By the time she confronted him, he was ready.

He had already moved money out of their joint account.

Already transferred business assets.

Already told friends Clara had become “unstable” during pregnancy.

Already claimed she was trying to trap him with a child.

When she said she wanted a divorce, Julian smiled.

“You don’t even understand what you’re asking for,” he said. “I made you, Clara.”

“No,” she whispered. “You used me.”

His face changed.

That night, he locked her out of the master bedroom.

The next morning, his attorney served her papers.

Julian requested full control of the house, the company, and all marital accounts.

He also challenged Clara’s ability to provide for the baby.

His filing described her as “financially dependent,” “emotionally fragile,” and “without family support.”

Without family support.

Those words stayed with her longer than the rest.

Because they were true.

At least, she thought they were.

👉 But one late-night call from her attorney revealed Clara might not be as alone as Julian believed…
