Chapter 8

PART 8:

Julian tried one last attack.

“She married me for money,” he snapped.

Clara turned to him.

Her face was wet with tears.

But her voice was steady.

“I married you because I thought you saw me.”

She looked down at her belly, then back at him.

“But you only saw someone you could own.”

Julian said nothing.

Because for once, there was no audience left willing to believe him.

Three months later, the divorce became a criminal case too.

The forensic accountants found hidden accounts.

The forged signature was confirmed.

The email interception was traced to Julian.

Vanessa cooperated after realizing Julian had planned to blame her for the financial transfers.

She handed over messages, recordings, and bank records.

Julian lost the company assets he had tried to hide.

He lost the house.

He lost his reputation.

And after pleading guilty to fraud, coercive control, and evidence tampering, he lost his freedom too.

Clara did not attend his sentencing alone.

Rebecca sat on one side.

Eleanor sat on the other.

Not too close.

Never pushing.

Always there.

That became Eleanor’s way of loving her at first.

Steady presence.

No pressure.

No grand speeches.

Just showing up.

When Clara went into labor six weeks later, Eleanor was in the hallway with a white blanket folded over her arm, crying before the baby even arrived.

Clara gave birth to a healthy girl just after sunrise.

For a long moment, she held her daughter against her chest and said nothing.

Then Eleanor stepped into the room.

Her eyes were red.

Clara looked at her.

“Do you want to meet your granddaughter?”

Eleanor’s hand flew to her mouth.

She nodded.

When she held the baby, she whispered, “You were never nothing.”

Clara closed her eyes.

Those words reached the oldest wound first.

👉 But one year later, Clara found the old gray coat from court — and finally understood what that day had really given back to her…
