Chapter 7

PART 7:

In the waiting room, Teresa tried to control the story.

She told relatives Emily had panicked over chores.

She said Ethan was being emotional.

She said pregnancy made women dramatic.

Then Ethan walked out.

Everyone looked at him.

Teresa stood.

“How is she?”

Ethan did not answer the question first.

He held up his phone.

“I watched the video.”

Teresa’s face stiffened.

His sisters looked down.

“I also checked the security camera in the kitchen.”

That part made them freeze.

Emily had forgotten about it.

Everyone had.

Months earlier, Ethan installed a small indoor camera after packages went missing near the back door.

It faced the kitchen entrance and part of the island.

He rarely checked it.

Today, it had captured enough.

The mess.

The phone recording.

Teresa throwing the pan.

Emily grabbing the sink.

The sisters laughing.

And Teresa stepping in front of Ethan when he tried to leave for the hospital.

“You recorded inside our home?” Teresa snapped.

“My home,” Ethan said. “The one you turned into a place my wife didn’t feel safe.”

Teresa’s eyes filled with sudden tears.

The kind Emily had watched her use for years.

“I am your mother.”

Ethan nodded once.

“Yes. And that’s why I gave you chances Emily never owed you.”

Teresa looked wounded.

“You’re choosing her over your family?”

Ethan’s face went cold.

“She is my family.”

The waiting room went silent.

One of his sisters whispered, “Ethan, we didn’t mean—”

“You filmed my pregnant wife being humiliated,” he said. “You laughed while she was in pain. Don’t tell me what you meant. Show me what you did.”

No one answered.

Ethan pulled three envelopes from his coat pocket.

He had asked the hospital social worker for a quiet room and printed short written notices from his email.

Not legal drama.

Not cruelty.

Just boundaries.

Teresa and the sisters had thirty-six hours to remove their belongings from the house under supervision.

Their temporary access codes were canceled.

Their credit cards linked to Ethan’s account were closed.

The monthly payments Ethan had quietly been making on Teresa’s apartment debt stopped immediately.

He would pay for one hotel for three nights.

After that, they were on their own.

Teresa stared at the papers like he had struck her.

“You can’t do this to us.”

Ethan’s voice did not shake.

May you like

“You did it to yourselves.”

👉 But when Emily finally came home, the quiet house showed her what Ethan’s apology really meant…
