Chapter 11 - THE REAL HOUSEKEEPER

Her name was Margaret “Maggie” Doyle.

Sixty-one.

Widowed.

Employed at Whitmore House for fourteen years.

The staffing agency record showed she took medical leave.

She had not.

Meridian abducted her so Margaret, Emily, and Eleanor could rotate through the maid disguise without interference.

Maggie knew the mansion’s hidden passages and family habits.

She was the only outsider who could identify every substitute.

That made her dangerous.

Federal agents traced her payroll card to a warehouse in New Jersey.

She was found alive, injured but mentally sharp.

Her first question was whether anyone fed the kitchen cat.

Ordinary concern after extraordinary captivity.

Maggie identified Charles as the person who ordered her removal.

She also identified Andrew visiting the warehouse.

My father claimed he tried to rescue her but feared exposing the sting.

Again, an operation allowed a woman to remain captive.

Maggie did not accept the explanation.

“You all wore my uniform while I sat in a locked room.”

That sentence changed the public understanding.

The costume everyone treated as clever belonged to a real worker whose life had been erased.

The court granted Maggie ownership of the employment records, image rights, and compensation fund created from the viral video.

She refused to become a symbol.

She wanted her house, pension, and privacy.

Then she revealed a final detail.

Before her abduction, she found a child hiding beneath the grand staircase.

A girl about eight.

The child called Margaret “Grandma” and Daniel “Dad.”

I had no daughter.

Or thought I did not.

Maggie hid the girl from Charles for one night.

Then Eleanor took her.

The child’s name was Lily Whitmore.

The continuity program had created a daughter from my stolen genetic material.

She remained missing.
