Chapter 7 - WHOSE SON WAS I?

DNA confirmed Margaret was not my biological mother.

Andrew was not my biological father.

I had been placed into their home at six months after their first son died.

Margaret knew.

Andrew knew.

Neither told me.

They claimed they wanted to protect me from the continuity program that created my identity.

My biological mother was a housekeeper named Sarah Collins.

Vanessa’s surname came from her.

Sarah gave birth inside a Whitmore hospital and was told her baby died.

I was that baby.

The family who raised me had stolen me through the same system they later fought.

Margaret said my placement began as my grandfather’s decision. She and Andrew kept me afterward because they loved me.

Love existed.

So did theft.

The trust recognized “Daniel Whitmore” as heir regardless of biology because identity documents controlled succession.

That was why everyone needed my signature.

I was not blood.

I was the legal key.

Sarah Collins was found alive in a long-term psychiatric residence.

She had spent thirty-one years saying Margaret took her son.

Doctors called it fixed delusion.

The delusion was true.

Our meeting was careful.

She did not call me son immediately.

I did not call her mother.

We exchanged names.

Then Vanessa learned Sarah was also her adoptive grandmother through Eleanor’s forged records.

The family tree had been engineered to confuse claims.

The system’s strength was not perfect replacement.

It was making truth exhausting enough that people surrendered.

I refused.

The court rebuilt identity through independent evidence.

Then Sarah recognized Emily’s photograph.

Emily was not Margaret’s biological daughter either.

She was Sarah’s second child, taken years later.

My “sister” was my biological sister after all.

Margaret had raised one stolen child and lost another stolen child.

The roles changed again.

Emily stared at me.

For the first time, resentment gave way to recognition.

Not love.

Possibility.

Then Sarah whispered one more name.

She had given birth to twins the first time.

Daniel and David.

I had an identical twin brother.

The continuity program may have placed him somewhere else.

May you like

A man had already been appearing in company meetings under my identity.

The trust could be transferred by another Daniel.
