Chapter 7 - THE FERTILITY PROCEDURE

Six months earlier, I underwent a procedure after unexplained bleeding.
Victor called it a routine treatment.
The clinic sedated me.
Medical records showed an embryo transfer.
My egg.
Samuel’s genetic material.
No informed consent.
Victor had agreed to raise the child publicly as his own, then surrender custody to Helena after the trust activated.
That was what I had been “hiding.”

Victor’s rage came from fear the truth would expose his role.
Samuel called the embryo transfer a mistake made by his doctors.
Evelyn produced his signed authorization.
No mistake.
Then Helena demanded to speak with me.
Under guard, she said:
“You think the child is yours because you carry him.”
The sentence revealed the family’s entire belief system.
Bodies were containers.
Children were assets.
Love was irrelevant.
