Chapter 6 - THE PLACEMENT PROGRAM

The program was called Sentinel Family Continuity.

It placed children from military intelligence families into selected households, altered records, and tracked them into service careers.

The stated goal was protection after covert operations.

The real goal became influence.

Children were raised toward specific commands, marriages, and clearances.

Thomas and I were both Sentinel placements.

Our marriage was predicted before we met.

My mother Evelyn was not my biological mother.

She was the officer assigned to raise me.

Her love could still be real.

The assignment remained real too.

She admitted knowing I was placed.

She did not know Sentinel planned my career in detail.

My father James Brooks knew more.

He guided me toward the Army.

He also helped alter Night Harbor records.

Why?

He believed the mission exposed Sentinel’s child placements and would endanger thousands.

He chose secrecy over law.

Then Thomas revealed he had discovered the program overseas.

His team was ambushed because they carried the child registry.

Night Harbor was not about weapons.

It was about people.

The missing registry remained hidden somewhere inside my house.

Margaret believed the deed folder contained it.

That was why she wanted me gone.

The legal documents were only cover.

Then Detective Hayes opened the deed’s sealed back panel.

Inside was a microfilm list.

My name.

Thomas.

Claire.

Victor.

General Brooks.

And a newborn child:

LIAM HAYES.

I had never had a child.

The registry listed him as my biological son.
