Chapter 14 - THE HEARING

The federal hearing combined charges against Aaron, Sylvia, Genesis executives, Judge Vale, Charles Wynn, corrupt hospital staff, and foundation attorneys.
The courtroom filled with survivors.
Women whose miscarriages had been fabricated.
Parents who learned their adoptions began with coercion.
Children whose identities had been rewritten.
Lucy and Ella did not attend.
They watched through protected video with child therapists beside them.
Dr. Reed testified first.
She admitted she withheld the second heartbeat briefly during the ultrasound.
She also explained why, apologized, and turned over every record.
The defense attacked her for forged credentials connected to her name.
Priya proved the credentials were cloned.
Rebecca Mitchell testified about the twins’ delivery, her confinement, and the foundation homes.
She looked at Aaron only once.
“You knew enough to stop,” she said.
Aaron testified under a limited agreement.
He blamed Sylvia and Evelyn.
He admitted stealing Lucy and Ella.
He admitted falsifying the deaths.
He admitted drugging me.
But he claimed every act prevented Evelyn from taking the children.
Rebecca Sloan asked why he sold Ella to an executive’s family.
He had no answer.
Control again disguised as rescue.
Sylvia testified against Evelyn.
She described herself as another victim.
Then prosecutors played the security footage of the silver cup.
They played recordings of her ordering VX-17 doses.
They displayed contracts assigning prices to babies.
Her victim performance collapsed.
I testified last.
I spoke about the ultrasound room.
The phone vibrating.
The glass shaking.
The cup raised toward the camera.
Then I spoke about the quieter violence.
The missing calls.
The controlled appointments.
The grief sessions arranged by the woman who caused the grief.
The way Aaron answered every question for me until I forgot I had a voice.
The prosecutor asked what I wanted from the court.
“Not revenge,” I said. “Names. Records. Children returned where safe. Truth where return is impossible. And a law that no husband, doctor, parent, or company can turn consent into a signature collected from someone who is frightened, drugged, or trapped.”
The judge denied bail for every principal defendant.
Aaron and Sylvia faced life sentences if convicted.
The foundation was dissolved.
Genesis assets were frozen.
The twins inside me remained legally mine.
Lucy’s treatment continued.
Ella moved into protected placement near me while we learned how to become family.
It was not an ending.
But it was justice beginning.
Then Rebecca Sloan received a package from Maine.
Inside was the original Saint Agnes donor ledger.
The unborn twins’ biological father was listed.
Dr. Ethan Brooks.
The emergency physician who treated Rebecca Mitchell years earlier after she escaped.
He had never appeared in our story.
At least, not yet.
Beneath his name was a note:
DONOR UNAWARE. SON OF EVELYN.
Evelyn Mercer was his mother.

The unborn twins connected both branches of the program.
And Evelyn had already scheduled their extraction date.
