Dominic’s mother pointed at Audrey.
“She turned him against us. She never respected this family.”
Audrey looked at the woman.
“I gave birth five days ago.”
“And yet here you are causing a scene.”
The nurse stepped forward before Audrey could answer.
“No, ma’am. She was being discharged safely until your son refused to assist her.”
Dominic snapped, “Stay out of this.”
Audrey’s father turned his head toward him.
“Speak to her like that again.”
Dominic stopped.
The hospital security guard had now come outside.
So had two staff members.
People were watching.
Dominic hated being watched when he did not control the story.
Audrey’s phone was still in her hand.
Recording.
She had started it when Dominic handed her the money.
Her father saw the screen.
Then he looked at her.
Audrey nodded.
Yes.
Everything.
Dominic followed their silent exchange and went pale.
“You recorded me?”
Audrey’s voice was calm.
“You wanted me to take the bus. I wanted to remember why.”
The next hour moved quickly.
Audrey and the baby were taken to a private suite her father arranged through the hospital administration, not for luxury, but because her doctor wanted her monitored after the stress and pain.
The nurse filed a report.
Hospital security saved the curbside camera footage.
Audrey’s father called a family attorney before Dominic even left the parking lot.
Dominic tried to text her.
Then call her.
Then send his mother.
None of them got through.
By evening, a protective order was being prepared.
By morning, the court had enough to grant emergency temporary protections for Audrey and the newborn.
Dominic was ordered not to contact her directly.
He was denied unsupervised access to the baby pending review.
His mother was barred from the hospital floor.
