Daniel had spent seven years inside a memory-conditioning program.
He was shown videos of another man living under his name.
A second Daniel signed reports, attended classified meetings, and communicated with me through monitored channels.
Some emails I believed came from my husband had been written by the replacement.
The black site wanted the real Daniel to doubt which life belonged to him.
Independent DNA confirmed he was biologically Daniel Hayes.
But identity was more than biology.
The replacement had been given his service number, marriage records, and command history.
Captain Brooks revealed the second Daniel was still active.
Name before reconstruction: Nathan Cole.
He currently commanded a covert logistics unit at Fort Ashbury.
Mercer had worked for Nathan.
That was why Daniel called him by name.
Mercer tried to reach the locked exit.
The young Marines blocked him.
Then the mess hall speakers played a recording.
Nathan’s voice.
“Logan, if Victoria remembers your name, terminate Daniel.”
Mercer froze.
Everyone heard it.
His role was not merely humiliation.
