Nathan Cole arrived wearing Daniel’s face.
Same height.
Same voice.
Same left-hand scar created surgically.
He carried classified documents proving he had served as Daniel for six years.
The real Daniel carried memories and DNA.
The replacement carried institutional recognition.
Nathan said:
“You abandoned her for seven years.”
Daniel answered:
“I was imprisoned.”
Nathan looked at me.
“I wrote to you. I protected your finances. I signed your medical forms.”
Every action he listed had happened without my informed consent.
He called it care.
I called it identity theft.
Yet I also understood the system had shaped him.
Nathan had been trained to believe the life became his through service.

He offered the Fort Ashbury archive in exchange for legal recognition as Daniel Hayes.
Denied.
Evidence was not a family bargaining chip.
Nathan provided access anyway because Colonel Voss, the continuity director, planned to erase him too.
