Chapter 7: You Should Have Signed

Chapter 7: You Should Have Signed

At trial, Victor’s attorneys tried to paint him as a desperate father protecting family assets from an “unstable outsider.”

Then Elena testified.

She walked slowly to the stand with Daniel beside her and a healed scar near her wrist from the hospital IVs.

The courtroom went silent when she sat.

Victor would not look at her.

Elena described the threats.

The tea.

The paralysis.

The sound of Victor’s voice when she could not move.

Then the prosecutor played the recording.

Victor’s own words filled the courtroom.

You should have signed.

Daniel closed his eyes.

The jury heard everything.

The attempted murder charges.

The conspiracy.

The falsified medical handling.

The trust motive.

Victor was convicted.

He received a long prison sentence, and the court permanently removed him from any authority over the Whitmore estate or trust.

Daniel’s mother, who had stayed silent for years under Victor’s control, testified too.

Not to save herself.

To finally stop protecting him.

“I knew he was cruel,” she said through tears. “I did not know he would become this.”

Elena did not forgive her immediately.

Maybe she never fully would.

But she appreciated the truth.

The trust transferred into protective management under Daniel and Elena, exactly as his grandfather had intended.

Their daughter remained the future beneficiary.

They named her Hope.

Not because the name was soft.

Because hope had kicked inside a casket when everyone else believed it was over.

A year later, Daniel and Elena returned to the funeral home.

Not for grief.

For closure.

The director had lost his license after the investigation, and the building had changed ownership.

Still, the main chapel looked the same.

White walls.

Tall windows.

Polished floor.

The corner where the casket had stood.

Elena held Hope in her arms.

The little girl grabbed at her mother’s necklace and babbled.

Daniel stood beside them, quieter than usual.

“I hate this room,” he said.

Elena looked around.

“I do too.”

“Then why did you want to come?”

She looked down at their daughter.

“Because this is where they tried to end our story.”

👉 Victor was gone, the trust was protected, and the baby who moved beneath the flowers finally had a name: Hope.
