Chapter 4

PART 4:
There were clips of arguments.
Clips of him cornering her.
Clips of him forcing her to say things after hours of pressure, things he could later twist to make her sound unstable.
And there were other files too.
Recordings of him practicing fake phone calls.
A draft statement saved on his desktop.
My wife has been struggling for months.
She hurts herself when she gets emotional.
I’m afraid she may try to blame me.
She sat in front of that laptop with shaking hands and understood.
Grant was not just hurting her.
He was preparing to discredit her before she ever spoke.
That night, she changed one setting on his phone while he slept.
His photos and videos already backed up automatically to his cloud account.
But Grant had disabled shared device syncing months before.
She turned it back on.
Quietly.
Then she connected his phone to the old tablet she kept hidden in a box of winter clothes.
Every video Grant saved, every photo he forgot to delete, every voice note he recorded, copied itself somewhere he would never think to check.
For two weeks, she waited.
Not because she was weak.
Because she needed enough proof that his charm could not erase.
She called a local domestic violence hotline from a grocery store bathroom.
She spoke to an advocate in whispers.
She made a plan.
A safe bag in the trunk of her coworker’s car.
Copies of documents hidden at her office.
A police report drafted but not yet filed.
Then Grant found the tablet.
He didn’t say anything at first.
He placed it on the kitchen counter after dinner like he had found a missing spoon.
“What’s this?”
Her blood went cold.
She lied badly.
May you like
He knew it.
👉 And when Grant realized she had been collecting evidence, the attack he planned to blame on her finally began…
