Chapter 7 - The False Emergency

Dr. Brooks regained consciousness under police protection.
She had been struck from behind after leaving the clinic.
Her medical bag was missing.
So was her hospital identification.
She gripped my hand.
“They’re going to bring you in under a false emergency.”
“How?”
“Someone copied my credentials. They’ll claim your blood pressure is dangerous and induce labor.”
“What happens if they induce me early?”
Dr. Brooks looked at Naomi.
“The trust deadline might fail. But medically, Claire and the baby could also be at serious risk if the process is uncontrolled.”
We alerted every hospital within fifty miles.
My chart was flagged.
Only Dr. Brooks and a federal medical team could authorize treatment.
For the first time, I believed we were ahead of them.
Then Julian went public.
He held a press conference outside a downtown hotel.
He claimed I had kidnapped Vanessa and staged the cellar fire.
He presented the forged DNA report.
He told reporters I was unstable, obsessed with inheritance, and endangering my unborn child.
Beatrice stood beside him looking heartbroken.
“We only want Claire to accept help.”
The performance was polished.
Some outlets repeated it without verification.
Social media filled with strangers calling me a liar.
Julian petitioned the court for emergency guardianship over me.
The assigned judge was not Sloan.
But the petition included medical declarations from three doctors I had never met.
Naomi challenged all three.
The hearing was scheduled for the next morning.
That night, I slept in the mansion under police protection.
At 2:13 a.m., my bedroom monitor showed movement in the hallway.
A woman in blue scrubs approached the door.
She wore Dr. Brooks’s stolen identification.
She knocked softly.
“Claire? Dr. Brooks sent me.”
I did not answer.
The woman used a keycard.
The lock opened.
Only three people had access to the new security system.
Me.
Naomi.
And the technician who installed it.
The nurse entered carrying a syringe.
Police officers stepped from the dressing room.
She ran.
They caught her at the stairs.
Her real name was Tara Mills.
She worked for a private clinic owned by one of Beatrice’s shell companies.
In her bag were labor-inducing drugs, sedatives, and forged consent forms bearing my signature.
Tara refused to speak.
Then police found a second phone taped beneath the insole of her shoe.
The last message read:
IF CLAIRE RESISTS, SAVE THE CHILD.
I stared at the words.
Not save both.
Save the child.
They planned to let me die during delivery and take my daughter.
Vanessa began crying when she saw the message.
“That’s what Beatrice wanted with my son. A child she could control.”
Naomi looked toward the window.
“Then the baby is not just an heir.”
“What else?”
“A legal key.”
Before she could explain, the mansion’s front gate camera activated.
Seven black cars lined the road.
Child protective services, private security, and a court-appointed medical team were standing outside.

Julian had obtained an emergency order.
👉 Julian had turned the legal system into a weapon, and the new court order allowed him to enter Claire’s home and take control of her unborn baby before sunrise.
