Chapter 11 - The Other Woman at the Door

The doorbell rang twenty minutes later.
Brittany stood outside carrying a folder and a small overnight bag.
She was pale, heavily pregnant, and visibly nervous.
The black government SUV in the driveway made her hesitate.
Tyler rushed toward the door.
“You shouldn’t be here.”
“You said the papers would be signed.”
Brittany looked past him and saw Harper holding Ava.
Her expression changed.
“You told me she knew.”
Harper’s voice remained controlled.
“Knew what?”
Brittany gripped the folder against her stomach.
“That the marriage was over. That you both agreed to sell the house.”
Tyler stepped outside and tried to close the door behind him.
General Hale held it open with one hand.
“No one is preventing you from leaving, ma’am. But you may want to understand what your name appears beside.”
Brittany entered cautiously.
Harper showed her the forged loan application.
Brittany stared at Tyler.
“You said Harper signed.”
“She did.”
“No, she didn’t,” Harper replied.
Then Brittany saw the fake DNA report.
Her eyes filled with horror.
“You told your family Ava wasn’t yours?”
Tyler lowered his voice.
“It was temporary.”
Brittany backed away.
“Our baby was temporary too, wasn’t she?”
He reached for her arm.
Brittany jerked free.
From her folder, she removed a partnership agreement Tyler had asked her to sign.
It transferred her savings into Lawson Ridge Investments.
Harper compared the account number with the delinquency notice.
Tyler had used Brittany’s money to make two payments on the fraudulent home-equity loan.
He was not building a future for either woman.

He was using one to cover what he stole from the other.
👉 When Brittany opened her phone, Tyler discovered that Harper was not the only woman who had quietly preserved his threats.
