Chapter 8 - The Video Before Graham Arrived
The full wedding footage was nearly twenty minutes long.
Investigators watched every second.
Sloane appeared calm at first.
She greeted vendors.
Adjusted flowers.
Checked her reflection in a mirror.
Then the guests moved toward the ballroom.
Maisie entered the foyer holding her stuffed rabbit.
Sloane’s expression changed instantly.
She ordered Maisie upstairs.
Maisie refused.
She wanted her father.
Sloane grabbed her.
Maisie began crying.
The restraint appeared moments later.
There was no violent child.
No uncontrollable episode.
No attack on Sloane.
Only a frightened five-year-old trying to get away.
The camera also captured Sloane making the call to Owen.
Then dragging the pink suitcase closer to the door.
Then checking the time.
The transport company was supposed to arrive after Graham became occupied with guests.
Sloane did not know his limousine had returned early because he forgot the wedding rings in his upstairs study.
That mistake saved Maisie.
Had Graham remained at the church, the transport van might have reached the mansion first.
The company driver would have believed he was conducting a lawful medical transfer.
The documents looked legitimate.
Maisie would have screamed for her father.
The adults would have been told that screaming was part of her diagnosis.
That possibility haunted Graham more than the foyer itself.
A lie could turn a child’s truthful fear into evidence that the lie was correct.
Stonebridge suspended all contact with Owen’s company and cooperated fully.
The transport service did the same.
Neither organization wanted involvement with forged consent.
Owen’s professional relationships began collapsing.
Then police discovered that Sloane had scheduled another appointment for the morning after the wedding.
Not with Stonebridge.
With a family-law attorney.
The consultation notes were obtained legally through the investigation.
Sloane had asked about temporary custody if a biological parent became violent.
She specifically described a hypothetical wedding incident.
A father discovers his child “misbehaving.”
He attacks the stepmother.
Police respond.
Could the stepmother seek emergency protection of the child?
The consultation happened eleven days before the wedding.
The attorney had told her any decision would depend on actual facts.
Sloane created the facts she wanted.
Or tried to.
But the notes revealed another motive.
She asked whether temporary custody would allow her to control where Maisie lived while Graham underwent evaluation.
