Chapter 6 - The Brother Behind the Loan

Franklin immediately called company security.

“Lock the executive floor.”

Brandon reached for the phone.

“Don’t.”

Franklin stepped back.

“Touch me again and the police will receive the footage before you lower your hand.”

Brandon stopped.

His confidence had vanished.

David spoke to security on speaker.

Cole had used an old contractor badge to enter the building.

He had gone directly to Franklin’s private records room.

But the original deed was not there.

It had been transferred to legal custody before the house sale.

Security detained Cole until police arrived.

Amber covered her mouth.

“He didn’t know.”

Franklin looked at her.

“He knew exactly where to search.”

Catherine asked, “Why would he need the original deed after obtaining the loan?”

David answered.

“To destroy evidence of conflicting ownership records.”

Brandon sank into a chair.

The scheme had not been a careless investment.

It had been planned.

Cole created false authorization documents.

Amber obtained Franklin’s signature.

Brandon used his position as Franklin’s son to convince the lender that the transfer of authority was real.

They expected the Cypress Harbor project to generate enough money to repay the loan before Franklin ever discovered it.

Instead, construction stalled.

Investors withdrew.

Interest accumulated.

Then Franklin announced he might sell the River Oaks property.

That sale threatened to expose everything.

“So that’s why you tried to make me look confused,” Franklin said.

Brandon stared at the floor.

Over the previous month, his son had repeatedly mentioned memory problems in front of employees.

He told the family doctor Franklin forgot appointments.

Amber told neighbors Franklin wandered outside at night.

None of it was true.

They were building a case.

If they could have Franklin declared mentally incompetent, Brandon hoped to gain control of the company and stop the sale.

The medical report in Franklin’s coat had mattered because they feared it might prove he was still healthy enough to challenge them.

Catherine looked at Brandon with disgust.

“You tried to take legal control of your father after forging his signature?”

Brandon stood.

“You don’t understand family business.”

Franklin’s voice became dangerously calm.

“Neither do you.”

David handed him another document.

“This is the temporary injunction we prepared if interference occurred.”

Brandon looked up.

“What injunction?”

“One freezing all personal accounts connected to the fraudulent loan.”

Amber’s face turned white.

The money from Cypress Harbor had passed through accounts in both their names.

The glamorous life they displayed in River Oaks was about to stop.

Then sirens sounded faintly outside.

Amber gripped Brandon’s arm.

“You said your father would never press charges.”

Brandon looked at Franklin.

For the first time, he seemed to realize that he had never truly known the man he called weak.

👉 The police were not coming only for the slap—they were coming for a fraud that could cost Brandon decades of freedom.
