Chapter 7 - The Son Who Blamed Everyone Else

Brandon began talking before the police entered.
“Cole designed the loan.”
Amber turned on him.
“You introduced them.”
“I didn’t know the documents were fake.”
“You watched me copy the signature.”
“You said Dad had agreed.”
Franklin listened as their marriage started collapsing in front of him.
Each sentence became an accusation.
Each accusation revealed another fact.
Cole had promised them fifteen percent of the project.
Amber had planned to use the profit to launch a luxury home-design company.
Brandon intended to purchase Franklin’s manufacturing division after gaining control of the family business.
They did not merely want independence.
They wanted to use Franklin’s assets to buy authority over him.
Two Houston police officers entered with David’s permission.
They reviewed the security footage of the slap.
They photographed Franklin’s injuries and torn shirt.
Franklin explained the forged-loan discovery.
A financial-crimes detective was contacted.
Brandon immediately changed his tone.
“Dad, tell them it was a family argument.”
Franklin looked at the man who had struck him.
“Was the loan a family argument?”
“I made mistakes.”
“You committed crimes.”
“You don’t know that.”
David answered.
“We know enough.”
Amber sat silently on the sofa.
Her cold amusement was gone.
The wine glass trembled in her hand.
One officer asked whether Franklin wanted Brandon removed from the property.
“Yes.”
Brandon stared at him.
“You can’t throw me out tonight.”
“The house no longer belongs to my company.”
Catherine stepped forward.
“And your occupancy agreement ended when the sale closed.”
Brandon turned toward her.
“We live here.”
“You lived here with permission from the former owner.”
Amber whispered, “Where are we supposed to go?”
Franklin almost answered.
Then he remembered visiting the hospital alone after being attacked outside the grocery store.
He remembered Brandon refusing to pick him up because Amber had dinner plans.
He remembered sleeping in a hospital chair while his son entertained guests in this house.
“That is no longer my responsibility.”
Brandon’s face twisted.
“You’re choosing strangers over your own son.”
“No. I am choosing the truth over a man who used blood as permission.”
The officers told Brandon and Amber to gather essential belongings.
They would be allowed to retrieve the rest later under supervision.
Brandon walked toward the hallway, then paused.
“What about the company?”
Franklin understood the real question.
Not whether he was forgiven.
Whether he would still inherit.
“Your employment is suspended.”
Brandon’s mouth opened.
“Dad—”
“And the succession plan is revoked.”

The final trace of arrogance disappeared.
👉 Losing the house frightened Brandon—but losing the company inheritance finally made him desperate enough to reveal Cole’s darkest secret.
