Chapter 10 - THE LOST PREGNANCY

Clara’s earlier miscarriage had not been a miscarriage.

She had delivered prematurely at a Carter clinic.

The baby survived for several hours.

Margaret’s staff declared the child dead and removed all records.

The child—a boy—was transferred into neonatal research.

Name: Samuel Carter.

Current age: four.

Clara’s first son was alive.

The discovery nearly broke us.

Samuel lived with a foster medical family under another surname.

He had complex health needs.

We did not demand immediate custody.

We asked for records, safety, and gradual contact.

The trust had created not three heirs.

Four.

Samuel’s medical condition made him “unsuitable” for succession, so Margaret erased him.

The cruelty was not only what she wanted.

It was whom she discarded.

Then Samuel’s file contained a current photograph of Dr. Reed—the obstetrician who had stabilized Clara.

He had worked for the Carter clinic.
