Independent DNA showed Clara was not descended from Evelyn Carter.
She was Evelyn.
Not literally.
Her genetic profile came from an embryo created decades earlier using Evelyn’s frozen material.
Clara had been born through a surrogate after Evelyn’s death.
Legally, she was registered as Evelyn’s granddaughter to hide the experiment.
Biologically, she was Evelyn’s daughter.
That made her closer to the original trust line than anyone expected.
Margaret had selected her because of that.
Clara’s entire identity had been built around inheritance before she could speak.
She asked:
“Was anything in my life mine?”
I answered:
“What you choose now.”
The court recognized her legal identity as Clara, not as a trust instrument.
The estate entered receivership.
No heir controlled it.
