Chapter 5 - ST. VANCE

Clara’s parents had not died in a house fire.
Her mother, Sarah Shaw, died inside St. Vance after challenging Margaret’s identity program.
Her father disappeared.
The fire destroyed records, not people.
St. Vance specialized in legal incapacity evaluations for wealthy families.
Once a person entered, doctors could certify confusion, instability, or incompetence.
Margaret used the hospital to remove inconvenient relatives.
The psychiatric transport arriving at the mansion was part of that network.
Actual police intercepted it after I sent the camera footage to an independent attorney.
The transport team carried forged paperwork.
Clara was not taken.
Instead, investigators seized the vehicles.
Inside one ambulance they found another gray sweater, another wedding ring, and photographs of Claire practicing Clara’s mannerisms.
Replacement had been scheduled for that night.
Then one paramedic recognized Julian.
He said:
“Your first wife is still inside St. Vance.”
I had never had a first wife.
