Chapter 8 - The Exit Plan

The financing file included a section labeled “domestic exposure.”
My goal was to understand it.
Plan:
Finalize voting consent.
Close acquisition.
Move Carter shares into Gavin-controlled holding company.
Then file divorce.
Then enforce prenup.
Then seek protective order if Samantha contests.
Protective order?
Based on what?
Draft affidavit:
Samantha unstable due unresolved grief over mother.
Claims conspiracy.
Violent episodes.
No evidence.
Then attached photographs.
Me crying.
Me shouting once during argument.
A broken glass from a dinner Gavin had thrown, cropped to make it appear near me.
Real moments.
Reframed.
Then medical note.
Therapist record obtained without authorization.
Harriet had accessed it through a friend in billing.
Again.
The plan was to discredit me after using my signature.
Then one line:
If Samantha refuses consent, temporary psychiatric hold may create window for spouse authorization.
My stomach turned.
Could Gavin authorize corporate consent if I were hospitalized?
Not legally.
But they believed pressure might work.
Then a private psychiatrist had already drafted an evaluation.
Name:
Dr. Leonard Ames.
He had never met me.
Diagnosis:
Acute paranoid grief disorder.
Not a real formal diagnosis.
Fabricated.
Then payment from Whitmore Family Holdings.
$40,000.
Dr. Ames was arrested for fraudulent medical documentation.
Then Gavin’s messages:
GAVIN:
I don’t want her hospitalized.
HARRIET:
Then get signature.
GAVIN:
There has to be another way.
HARRIET:
There is. Divorce poor.
Again.
He resisted one extreme.
Still pursued exploitation.
Then I found his own draft email to me.
Unsent.
Samantha, after the sale I’m leaving. I’m sorry.
That was almost worse.
He had planned an exit and apology like they were separate from the crime.
Then another file:
Apartment lease in Scottsdale.
Start date:
Next month.
Occupant:
Gavin Whitmore.
Second occupant:
Lila Monroe.
Who was Lila?
His coworker.
I knew her.
Married.
Then messages showed an affair.
Six months.
Another betrayal.
But not central.
Then Lila cooperated.
She said Gavin told her he would be “free after the Carter deal.”
That confirmed timeline.
Then she gave investigators a conversation recording.
Gavin:
Once Samantha signs, I can finally leave.
Lila:
What if she finds out about the shares?
Gavin:
Mom says she won’t until it’s too late.
There.
Then Lila asked:
“Do you think her mother really fell?”
Silence.
Gavin:
“I don’t ask questions I don’t want answered.”
That sentence defined him.
Not mastermind.
Willful blindness.
Then I realized the storage room had another purpose.
If I signed that day, Gavin planned to leave within weeks.
My imprisonment was the final coercion stage before abandonment.
Then investigators found the voting consent they wanted me to sign.
Not merely sale approval.
It also ratified “all prior transfers.”
If I signed, I would retroactively validate the stolen Carter shares.
That was the real danger.
My signature could cure parts of the fraud.
Then Harriet’s text:
Once she signs, Evelyn issue dies.
She believed my consent would bury Mom’s challenge permanently.
I thought they wanted my signature to sell a company—but they wanted me to legally erase my mother’s objection to the theft that preceded her death.
May you like
**The document they tried to force me to sign would have ratified the forged transfer and made my own signature the final cover for what happened to my mother.**
*The one person who drafted that consent finally agreed to testify—and his files showed Harriet had done this to another family before mine.*
