Chapter 2

PART 2:

In Claire’s hand was an old medical envelope, folded at the edges from years of being opened and closed.

Part of the label showed.

Twins.

Not enough for the whole room to understand.

Enough for Diane to understand.

Before Graham could speak again, the ballroom doors opened.

An older man in a dark suit walked in carrying a sealed folder.

The Ellison family attorney.

The man who had once told Claire there was nothing he could do for her.

Now he walked straight down the aisle.

The guests parted without being asked.

He stopped beside Claire, then looked at Graham.

“Mr. Ellison,” he said, “don’t say another word.”

Diane gripped the back of her chair.

The attorney raised the sealed folder.

“The paternity report is here.”

A sound moved through the wedding guests.

Half gasp.

Half whisper.

Brielle took one step back from Graham.

Claire looked straight at her ex-husband.

For the first time in five years, Graham Ellison had no power over the room.

Five years earlier, Claire had been Graham’s wife.

Not his embarrassment.

Not his scandal.

His wife.

She had met him before the cameras, before the magazine covers, before the Ellison name became a headline attached to mergers, hotels, and private islands.

Back then, Graham still laughed like a real person.

He bought coffee from street carts.

He walked Claire home in the rain.

He told her she made him feel human.

For the first year, she believed she had married a man, not a dynasty.

Then Diane moved closer.

Not into their house.

Into their marriage.

Diane controlled family dinners.

Family holidays.

Family doctors.

Family rumors.

And when Claire did not get pregnant right away, Diane turned concern into a weapon.

“Some women are not built for legacy,” she told Claire one morning over tea.

Graham heard it.

May you like

He said nothing.

👉 But Graham’s silence was only the beginning of the way Claire was slowly erased.
