Chapter 6

PART 6:

Claire contacted the old Ellison family attorney, not because she trusted him, but because his name appeared on documents tied to Graham’s inheritance.

The Ellison trust had a clause.

Any biological child of Graham Ellison had legal rights to certain protections, regardless of the parents’ divorce.

The attorney resisted at first.

Then Claire sent the medical file.

The returned letters.

The nurse’s statement.

And current photos of the twins.

The attorney called her himself the next morning.

His voice was different.

Careful.

Ashamed.

“Mrs. Ellison,” he said, then corrected himself. “Claire. I need your permission to request a court-admissible paternity test.”

Claire looked at her children building a tower of blocks on the floor.

“I don’t want money,” she said.

“I understand.”

“No,” she said. “You need to understand. I don’t want him back. I don’t want his house. I don’t want a war. I want my children to stop being treated like a lie.”

The attorney was quiet.

Then he said, “Then we will start there.”

The results came the morning of Graham’s wedding.

Claire had not planned to attend.

She had planned to send the documents quietly.

But then she saw a livestream clip from the rehearsal dinner.

Diane laughing beside Brielle.

Graham raising a glass.

A reporter asking if he was excited to finally start a family.

Diane answered before he could.

“After everything my son suffered in his first marriage, he deserves children of his own.”

Children of his own.

Claire looked at her twins sitting at the kitchen table eating cereal.

The little boy had milk on his chin.

The little girl was wearing two different socks.

Children of his own.

Something inside Claire went still.

She called the attorney.

“Will you be at the wedding?”

He paused.

“Yes. Diane requested I bring final documents related to the trust.”

“Bring the paternity report.”

“Claire—”

“No,” she said. “They don’t get to erase my children in public and learn the truth in private.”

So she dressed the twins.

She put on the pale pink dress because it was the only one she owned that felt brave.

And she walked into the Ellison wedding with the truth holding both her hands.

👉 Now the sealed folder was in the ballroom, and Graham had to face the children he never knew existed.
