Chapter 8

PART 8:
The trial took months.
Dominic’s defense was exactly what she expected.
She was unstable.
She was dramatic.
She planted the device to trap him.
She exaggerated the injury.
She had emotional issues.
She was an ungrateful wife.
But the footage was not emotional.
The footage did not exaggerate.
The footage showed his hand on her wrist.
Her scream.
His words.
His mother’s comment.
His father’s glance.
The pan on the floor.
The officer entering.
The truth from beginning to end.
When the video played in court, the young wife stared at the table.
She did not want to watch herself hurt.
But she listened.
She heard the old kitchen sounds.
The crash.
The scream.
The words that once owned her.
Maybe this will teach you.
Then she heard the sirens.
For the first time, the sound did not terrify her.
It comforted her.
Dominic sat across the courtroom, pale and stiff.
His mother cried when her clip appeared.
The judge did not look moved.
The prosecutor asked the young wife to speak only if she wanted to.
She stood.
Her burned hand had healed, but the scar crossed her palm like a pale map.
She did not hide it.
“For a long time, I thought surviving meant keeping him calm,” she said. “I thought if dinner was right, if the house was clean, if I was quiet enough, he would stop.”
Her voice shook.
Then steadied.
“But men like Dominic do not stop when women obey. They stop when someone finally sees them.”
Dominic looked down.
His mother stared straight ahead.
The young wife lifted her scarred hand.
“He said this would teach me not to ruin dinner. What it taught me was that I had to live.”
Dominic was convicted.
The sentence did not erase the burn.
It did not erase the years.
May you like
But it put a legal wall between him and the woman he had tried to break.
👉 And when the truth became public, the family that called cruelty discipline finally lost the image they cared about most.
