Chapter 2

PART 2:
Nobody moved.
Not the receptionist.
Not the employees.
Not even the intern.
Ethan’s face tightened.
“What the hell are you doing?”
His wife looked at him like he had just asked the stupidest question in the world.
“What you told me to do,” she said. “I’m making things easier for you.”
Ethan glanced around the lobby.
His eyes darted from employee to employee, already measuring the damage.
That was Ethan’s gift.
He could betray someone and still worry most about appearances.
“Take this upstairs,” he hissed. “Now.”
His wife gave a small, humorless smile.
“Oh, now you want privacy?”
A few employees looked down, pretending not to hear.
But everyone heard.
They had heard the rumors for months.
They had watched Ethan bring the intern into closed-door meetings she had no reason to attend.
They had seen the late-night rides home.
The business trips.
The lunches that lasted two hours.
And they had seen his wife visit the office three times that year.
Always polite.
Always elegant.
Always treated like an inconvenience.
Ethan had built his image carefully.
Brilliant founder.
Devoted husband.
Future CEO material.
The man who gave speeches about loyalty, discipline, and family values at every company retreat.
But his wife had lived with the real Ethan.
The one who came home smelling like someone else’s perfume.
The one who turned his phone face down at dinner.
The one who told her she was insecure when she asked why an intern was texting him at midnight.
At first, she wanted to believe him.
Because that is what love does to decent people.
It makes them search for excuses before they accept the truth.
Then came the office party.
His wife arrived late, carrying a dessert tray she had baked herself because Ethan said it would “look good” if she contributed.
The room went quiet when she walked in.
The intern was standing beside Ethan, laughing too closely, one hand resting on his arm like it belonged there.
Ethan did not step away.
Instead, he looked annoyed.
“Could you not make this awkward?” he whispered when his wife reached him.
She smiled through it.
She placed the dessert on the table.
She greeted his coworkers.
And when she went to the restroom, she passed two employees whispering by the hallway.
“I feel bad for her,” one said.
“Don’t,” the other answered. “She has to know by now.”

That was the first crack.
👉 And two weeks later, Ethan humiliated her in public so badly that something inside her finally changed…
