Chapter 6

PART 6:
The board chair turned to Ethan.
“Effective immediately, you’re suspended pending investigation. Your access is revoked.”
Ethan looked like he had been slapped.
“You can’t do that. This is my company.”
His wife’s voice cut through the lobby.
“No, Ethan.”
She reached into her purse and removed a copy of the original shareholder agreement.
Her thumb rested on the bottom of the page where his signature sat in black ink.
“It was never just yours.”
The board chair nodded.
“Your wife holds voting authority over the founding shares under the misconduct review provision. Until the investigation is complete, she has agreed to transfer temporary oversight to the board.”
A stunned murmur moved through the lobby.
Ethan stared at his wife as if seeing her for the first time.
Not as the woman who packed his lunch in the early years.
Not as the woman he dismissed at dinners.
Not as the woman he thought would cry in private and protect his public image.
But as the person who had always known where the foundation was buried.
“You wouldn’t dare,” he whispered.
She looked down at the wedding photo in the suitcase.
Then she turned it over.
In the picture, Ethan was smiling like a man who believed he had won life.
His wife was smiling too.
But her eyes in the photo looked different.
Softer.
Trusting.
Gone.
“I loved you when you had nothing,” she said. “I protected you when you were failing. I stood beside you when people laughed at your dream.”
Her voice trembled only once.
“And you repaid me by making me the joke.”
Ethan said nothing.
Because for once, there was no room left for lies.
The head of HR asked the intern to come upstairs for a formal statement.
The intern wiped her face and nodded.
Before she left, she looked at the wife.
“I’m sorry,” she whispered.
The wife held her gaze.
“I believe you’re sorry now,” she said. “Make sure you’re honest later.”
May you like
The intern nodded again, then followed HR into the elevator.
👉 But Ethan’s humiliation was not finished — because security was already walking toward him…
