Chapter 5

PART 5:
Ryan controlled the bank cards he claimed were shared.
He told Ava he had “improved” the estate.
He said his money paid for everything.
He told his mother that Ava was emotional, unstable, dramatic.
And his mother believed him because believing him gave her power too.
Then came the final night.
Ryan came home after midnight, drunk from a private investor event.
Ava was sitting in the study with the property folder open.
She had found emails on the office printer.
Ryan had been contacting lenders.
He was trying to use the mansion as collateral for a business deal.
He had signed draft documents as if he owned it.
As if Ava did not exist.
When he saw the folder, his face went empty.
“What are you doing?”
Ava stood.
“You tried to borrow against my grandmother’s house.”
“Our house.”
“My house.”
His mother appeared in the doorway wearing a robe.
“What is going on?”
Ryan snatched the documents from the desk.
Ava reached for them.
He shoved her back.
She hit the edge of the chair.
Pain flashed near her ribs.
His mother did not move.
Ryan leaned over Ava and whispered, “Without me, you’d be nothing.”
That was when something inside Ava finally stopped breaking and started hardening.
She looked up at him.
“No,” she said. “Without my name on that deed, you’d be homeless.”
His mother gasped.
Ryan’s face twisted.
“You think a piece of paper makes you powerful?”
Ava did not answer.
Because she had learned something from her grandmother.
Power did not always shout.
May you like
Sometimes it waited.
👉 The next morning, while Ryan slept, Ava made the phone calls that would destroy his lie.
