Chapter 8 - Vivienne Came Back for Noah's Toy

Grant did not rush home alone.

Police had already been notified about the earlier assault.

His security team coordinated with them.

Vivienne was still inside when officers arrived.

She held the torn blue elephant.

Nothing was inside.

The key was already with Grant.

“What are you doing here?” Grant asked from the hallway.

Vivienne turned.

Her confidence returned almost instantly.

“I came for my belongings.”

“In Noah's stuffed animal?”

She dropped it.

“Don't be dramatic.”

Grant looked at the destroyed toy.

Caroline had sewn that seam herself.

His anger sharpened.

“You attacked my son.”

“I barely touched him.”

Tessa, standing behind security, flinched.

Grant's voice became cold.

“You kicked at a twelve-month-old child.”

Vivienne rolled her eyes.

“He shouldn't even have that trust.”

There it was.

Grant stared.

“Why?”

“Because your family built everything on stolen money.”

“Then expose my father.”

Vivienne stopped.

“Why Noah?”

“Because that's what Charles cares about.”

Grant shook his head.

“No. That's what you care about now.”

Her expression changed.

Grant continued.

“You started with revenge.”

He held up Caroline's financial report.

“Then you started stealing too.”

Vivienne's face drained.

“You opened the box.”

“Yes.”

For the first time, she looked genuinely frightened.

Grant stepped closer but kept distance between them.

“Caroline knew everything.”

Vivienne's eyes filled with rage.

“Caroline thought she was better than me.”

“She was trying to make my father confess.”

“She protected him!”

“No. She documented him.”

Vivienne's breathing became shallow.

Grant understood something.

Vivienne needed Caroline to be a hypocrite.

Because otherwise Vivienne had to face what she had become.

Her father had participated in fraud.

Charles had participated.

Caroline tried to expose both sides.

Vivienne had instead monetized the secret.

“You don't get to call this justice anymore.”

Vivienne stared at him.

Then looked toward Noah.

“He'll own everything anyway.”

Grant's expression hardened.

“Noah owns nothing today except that toy you just destroyed.”

Vivienne laughed.

“You still don't understand.”

“Understand what?”

She smiled.

“Caroline changed the trust.”

Grant froze.

“What?”

Vivienne realized she had revealed too much.

Police stepped forward.

Her attorney would later argue over the legality and context of everything said.

Grant didn't care at that moment.

He cared about one sentence.

Caroline changed the trust.

That evening, his attorney searched the safe-deposit documents again.

There was no amendment.

Then Tessa remembered the intercepted envelope.

The one Caroline had tried to send her from the hospital.

Vivienne had taken it.

If Caroline created a trust amendment, Vivienne might still possess the only original.

And without it, nobody knew what Caroline had actually changed.
