The criminal case took months.
Real justice moved more slowly than family anger.
Vanessa and Ethan were indicted after prosecutors presented bank records, digital evidence, shell-company documents, and false vendor agreements.
Neither received the quick escape their lawyers initially predicted.
Assets connected to the fraudulent transfers were frozen.
Romano Stageworks recovered part of the stolen money through court-supervised proceedings and insurance claims.
Clara was formally cleared of wrongdoing.
The company issued a statement correcting the false allegations that had quietly circulated about her.
Cesare insisted her name be restored before his own company’s reputation.
Julian faced consequences too.
He was not charged with orchestrating the theft, but investigators documented his false certifications and unauthorized reserve transactions.
He entered a cooperation agreement regarding the financial case and accepted civil penalties related to his governance failures.
More painful to him, Cesare permanently removed him from the line of automatic succession at Romano Stageworks.
If Julian ever returned, it would be as an employee hired by an independent board.
Not as the founder’s son.
Not as an heir waiting for a chair.
At home, Julian’s path was even slower.
The temporary guardianship arrangement for Elsie remained in place with court oversight and Julian’s consent.
He began therapy.
He attended parenting sessions.
He stopped asking when Cesare would trust him again.
That question had always centered Julian.
Instead, he began asking what Elsie needed.
At first, his visits were short.
Elsie stayed close to Rosa or Cesare.
Julian brought no expensive toys.
No dramatic gifts.
He learned that rebuilding trust with a toddler consisted mostly of showing up when promised.
Sitting on the floor.
Reading the same picture book repeatedly.
Not becoming impatient when she chose someone else’s arms.
Months passed.
One afternoon, Elsie brought him a piece of pink paper.
She did not hand it to him.
She placed it on the carpet between them.
Julian understood.
It was permission to remain nearby.
Nothing more.
For once, he did not demand more.
Cesare watched from the doorway.
He still had anger inside him.
