Chapter 9 - The Signature That Could Not Exist

Naomi examined the forged resolution.
It was dated February 14.
On that date, Claire had been in Seattle attending a software licensing conference.
Her authentic digital signature log showed no activity.
The forged document claimed she had transferred emergency voting power to Theodore.
Victor tried to explain.
“It was a draft.”
“Then why is it notarized?” Naomi asked.
The notary seal belonged to a retired employee of Bennett Construction.
Police contacted him.
He admitted Margaret had paid him to stamp several documents without witnessing signatures.
Theodore stared at his mother.
“You said Victor handled everything.”
Margaret’s chin lifted.
“I protected you.”
“You involved me in fraud.”
“You agreed to take the company.”
“I thought Claire was hiding marital assets.”
Claire looked at him.
“You were willing to steal them as long as you could call them marital.”
Theodore had no answer.
Victor asked for an attorney.
The officers separated him from the family.
Then Naomi found another file inside the case.
It was a valuation of Northstar Holdings.
Theodore had believed Claire’s company was worth roughly ten million dollars.
The true valuation exceeded $340 million.
Margaret sat down.
Her face became strangely still.
“That cannot be correct.”
Claire said nothing.
The report showed Northstar’s ownership of construction patents, licensing agreements, commercial properties, and Bennett debt.
Theodore read the total twice.
“You had all this while I was struggling?”
“I used it to save your employees, your projects, your home, and your mother’s lifestyle.”
“You should have told me.”
“I did tell you I could help. You never asked how.”
“You made me look weak.”
“No. You made dependence look like success.”
Theodore’s humiliation transformed into anger.
“You enjoyed controlling me.”
Claire’s wet eyes hardened.
“I gave you every chance to stand beside me. You chose to stand on my throat.”
Martin stepped forward.
“No, Theodore. She protected you.”
Margaret glared at him.
“Coward.”
Martin faced her.
“The coward watched your son hit his wife and stayed silent. I’m trying not to remain that man.”
For the first time, another relative moved beside Claire.
Then another.
Margaret looked around and realized the room had shifted.
The people who had once avoided Claire’s eyes were now avoiding hers.
But Theodore was staring at the valuation report.
Not with shame.
May you like
With greed.
👉 Even after learning the truth, Theodore’s first question was not whether Claire was safe—it was how much of her fortune he could claim.
