Chapter 6 - Margaret Planned to Blame Rachel
The recording continued.
Vanessa shook her head.
“I don't want to do this.”
Margaret replied:
“You want Lily back?”
Vanessa flinched.
Rachel stared at the screen.
Margaret continued.
“Then stop acting weak.”
Daniel clenched his jaw.
Vanessa whispered:
“What if Emma gets hurt?”
Margaret's answer chilled the room.
“Nothing serious.”
Then:
“Rachel comes down. She loses control. You provoke her. We record her attacking you.”
Rachel felt sick.
That had been the real design.
Emma gets frightened.
Rachel explodes.
Margaret captures it.
Then the petition gains “proof” that Rachel is violent.
But Vanessa escalated beyond Margaret's instruction.
The skillet.
The blow.
Emma falling.
Margaret had not expected that.
The recording showed her recoil.
Then she did something unforgivable.
Nothing.
She didn't stop Vanessa.
Didn't help Emma.
Because even after the plan went wrong, she still saw opportunity.
Then Rachel slapped Vanessa.
Margaret's expression changed again.
Satisfaction.
She had gotten what she wanted.
A violent reaction.
Except the security camera preserved the context.
Rebecca copied everything.
Daniel whispered:
“They were going to edit the footage.”
Exactly.
The cloud log showed Margaret had already attempted to download the file.
Then David's message arrived before she could erase it.
Rachel finally understood why Margaret lunged for the phone.
She thought David had exposed the entire plan.
Rebecca immediately sought an emergency order preventing any change to Emma's trust.
The judge granted temporary preservation.
The accelerated hearing was canceled pending review.
For the first time, Margaret's plan stalled.
Then she struck back.
Her attorney released a statement claiming Rachel had assaulted Vanessa during a family dispute.
Technically true.
Conveniently incomplete.
Local gossip spread.
Daniel wanted to respond publicly.
Rebecca stopped him.
“No.”
“Why?”
“Because we have authenticated footage. Let evidence do the work.”
Rachel agreed.
The full recording was submitted through proper channels.
Then forensic accountants began tracing the merger.
Something unexpected emerged.
Margaret stood to gain far more than anyone knew.
Not through Carter Medical Supply shares directly.
Through a private investment entity positioned to profit if the merger closed.
How much?
Rebecca looked at the number twice.
Thirty-two million dollars.
Daniel went silent.
Rachel looked toward Emma's hospital room.
Her daughter had been used as leverage for thirty-two million dollars.
Then David called again.
“I found something else.”
“What?”
“Margaret didn't create that investment account.”
“Who did?”
David hesitated.
