Chapter 12 - The Woman Behind the Smile

The criminal investigation widened.
Forgery.
Attempted financial fraud.
Theft.
Conspiracy.
Potential child abuse charges related to Bianca's treatment of Livia.
Adrian was arrested first.
Bianca surrendered the next morning.
She walked into the courthouse wearing sunglasses and a cream suit.
No expression.
No apology.
Her lawyer tried to distance her from Adrian.
It didn't work.
The notebook contained Bianca's handwriting.
The recording contained her voice.
The transfers led to her companies.
The forged boarding-school application came from her laptop.
And the bridal-room security system provided the final piece.
Robert hadn't even known the small camera existed.
The mansion's security company had installed it months earlier after a jewelry theft.
It covered the hallway entrance and part of the bridal room.
No audio.
But enough video.
Bianca entering with clippers.
Livia backing away.
Rosalie stepping forward.
Bianca blocking Rosalie.
Then Bianca forcing the clippers through Livia's hair.
No accident.
No misunderstanding.
No "discipline gone wrong."
Deliberate.
When Robert watched it, he lasted seven seconds.
Then turned away.
"I don't need to see more."
Daniel closed the laptop.
"You may need to in court."
Robert stared at the wall.
"Then I'll watch it there."
He wasn't proud of punching Bianca.
His attorney told him so plainly.
"You should not have hit her."
"I know."
"Even under those circumstances."
"I know."
Robert accepted responsibility.
He entered a diversion agreement for the single assault incident, including anger-management counseling and community service.
He didn't fight it.
When Rosalie asked why, he answered simply.
"Because Livia needs to see that protecting someone doesn't mean you're above consequences."
That mattered.
More than winning every argument.
Meanwhile, Livia began seeing a child therapist.
At first, she barely spoke.
Then she drew.
A little girl.
A big house.
A woman in a white dress.
And a black square where the woman's face should have been.
Weeks passed.
Her hair slowly grew.
One afternoon, Robert found her standing in Caroline's old dressing room.
She was holding a silver hairbrush.
"Can I use Mommy's?"
Robert crouched beside her.
"Of course."
She touched the shorter side of her hair.
"What if I look weird?"
He took the brush.
"Then we'll look weird together."
He dragged the brush through his own hair until it stuck straight up.
Livia stared.
Then laughed.
The first real laugh since the wedding.
Robert nearly cried.
But justice still hadn't arrived.
Bianca refused every plea offer.
She insisted she would prove Robert had manipulated everyone against her.
And she had one card left.
At a pretrial hearing, her attorney announced they had a witness.
Someone who claimed Robert had known about the boarding-school plan.
Someone who would testify that Robert wanted Livia sent away.
Daniel leaned toward Robert.
"Do you know who?"
Robert shook his head.
Then the courtroom doors opened.
Ethan Cole walked in.
Bianca smiled for the first time in weeks.
Robert stared.
Ethan walked toward the witness seats.
May you like
And Bianca's smile widened.
👉 Every piece of evidence pointed toward Bianca—until her ex-husband entered court as the witness who could either destroy her defense or destroy Robert.
