Chapter 1

PART 1:

“You were never worthy of this family.”

Eleanor Sterling said it in the middle of the dining room.

Not quietly.

Not accidentally.

She said it like a verdict.

The Sterling mansion went silent.

Crystal glasses stopped halfway to people’s mouths.

Silverware rested untouched beside expensive plates.

Even the house staff near the doorway froze as Eleanor stepped closer to her daughter-in-law.

The young wife stood beside the long dining table with one hand wrapped around her nine-month belly.

Her face had gone pale.

Her breathing was uneven.

But she did not step back.

Eleanor’s finger pointed inches from her face.

“You came into this house with nothing,” Eleanor said coldly. “No name. No money. No legacy. And you thought carrying my grandson would make you one of us?”

A few relatives looked down.

No one defended her.

Caleb was not there.

That was why Eleanor had chosen this night.

The wife swallowed through the tight pain in her chest and lifted her eyes.

They were red.

But steady.

“Caleb chose me.”

For one second, Eleanor’s face hardened with something deeper than anger.

Fear.

Then it disappeared.

She leaned closer.

“Caleb made a mistake.”

The wife’s hand tightened over her belly.

The baby shifted sharply.

She winced.

Eleanor saw it.

And still, her voice remained ice-cold.

👉 But two hours later, Eleanor’s cruel words followed her daughter-in-law all the way to the hospital…
